The  Ladies Auxiliary wishes to thank everyone who assisted in providing recipes and feedback with the new cookbook. It is currently at the publisher and is expected to be available for purchase in March, just in time for the Maple Festival. We will be posting them for sale here on the web as well! The MVFD Ladies Auxiliary is always seeking new members. Just as large cities are in danger of fires, automobile crashes, flooding and virtually any other devastating event, our small rural communities are not immune to such devastation. The men and women of the McDowell Volunteer Fire Department respond at all hours of the day and night, leaving their family, work, and responsibilities behind to selflessly assist those in their time of need, when ever that may be. The requirements for this valuable service in which they preform is essential and can not be done with out the help and support of the community.


The Ladies Auxiliary helps procure funds for these operations as well as providing food and beverages on emergency incident scenes for the firefighters. The Ladies Auxiliary offers a great opportunity for the women in the community who wish to assist serving the public in times of need, but unable to perform firefighting duties. Some of the events that you can see the Ladies Auxiliary in action are the Annual Highland Maple Festival, Community Christmas Party, Relay for Life, BINGO, and of course emergency scenes assisting the firefighters.


If you would like to help us perform these tasks, please join us. New members are always welcome. We meet on the second Monday of each month at the McDowell Firehouse at 730 pm. The Ladies Auxiliary were out supporting a fellow Fire Department on Sunday, March 1st. Churchville Virginia Fire and Rescue Department held a Pampered Chef Bingo and the McDowell Ladies were out in force! Snow in the forecast and a dusting on the ground, just like firefighters responding to a call, the Ladies Auxiliary were out supporting a neighboring department. Great job ladies!

Community Yard Sale, June 27, 2009 8 A.M.

Kick off the Yard Sale Season with the MVFDLA!!! Go through your attics

and dig through your basements and bring all those no longer needed items with you as you make some extra cash at MVFDLA Community Yard Sale!


The ladies auxiliary is hosting a community yard sale at the

McDowell Fire Department to help raise money for the purchase

of our recent addition, Engine 22.


Purchase your space for $7 per table and display all your items for sale.

The event will be protected against the elements as it will be held indoors. Food and drinks will also be available for purchase including but not limited too: breakfast items, hotdogs, chili dogs, hamburgers and countless variety of baked goods. The doors open for shoppers at 8a.m.


A special table will hold our beloved Judith Switzer’s possessions for sale. Her family has generously offered all proceeds made from the sale of her belongings as a donation to the fire department. A large variety of items

will be available, both brand new with tags and well loved favorites. Come and perhaps take a token of her back with you while supporting her beloved fire department.
